A song of the earth where voices and orchestral music intertwine.
Walter's insightful perspective and the New York Philharmonic's powerful response are in perfect harmony.
This is the definitive stereo recording of Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" by the great maestro Bruno Walter, who was also a student of Mahler. This 1960 recording with the New York Philharmonic is Walter's only studio recording of this work in stereo. Along with his 1952 recording with the Vienna Philharmonic (monaural), it is known as one of the two greatest performances of his interpretation of Mahler.
