Polished jazz. Refined rock. Sharpened funk. It all engulfs each other, and a powerful groove takes off.
Since its formation in 1969, Soul Media has championed the fusion of jazz and rock.
The next step in that direction was this album, "In the Groove," recorded in 1973. It brought the sharpness of jazz to the forefront, blended in rock to create an edge, injected funk to give it power and elasticity. It produced robust yet refined and simply "cool music" that couldn't be contained within existing genres such as jazz-rock, jazz-funk, or fusion. This album is also described as a response to The Crusaders, whom Jiro Inagaki was paying attention to at the time. The aim was a success. With this album, Soul Media achieved a "refined black feeling" and headed towards their final destination, "Funky Stuff."
